Instant Spring – How To Force Forsythia

If spring won’t come to me outside, I will go and get it and bring it inside!  Inspired by the Webmaster’s new bright yellow background, I am reminded how easy it is to force Forsythia inside.  Just go out to your nearest Forsythia bush, and around here they are not hard to find, bring your sharpest pruners and clip yourself a bouquet of brown branches.  They can be as long or as short as you want for the vase you have.

Place the branches in fresh water, in a little sun, and in 4-7 days you should have stems of sunny yellow blooms!  It is best to change the water at least every two days otherwise it gets quite smelly.  You can also try this with other branches like cherry blossoms, or other early blooming branches.  Think Spring!

  1. Yes, and they are so cheerful! And you can always leave them to leaf out and grow some roots so you can add to your collection.
There is no snow under my forsythia but getting to them is another matter altogether!
