November’s speaker was Ron Christi who gave an excellent talk entitled “Growing Vegetables in Fall, Winter & Spring Extensions”. He is a Master Gardener Coordinator for Rockingham County through the UNH Cooperative Extension. Use their website link in the side bar to get all kinds of gardening advice and help. His certified organic farm is called Living Earth Farm and is located in Brookline, NH.
His very entertaining talk was peppered with tales of personal experiences regarding year round gardening in tunnels, building a poop house and doing fierce battle with voles, a.k.a. field mice. On this subject he was quite animated! One of his tips was to get your soil tested. Having balanced soil for the crops means the difference between having a mediocre garden and a great garden.
If you missed the lecture or want to study the material further, he has provided us with a copy of the presentation:
Terri found an article from Dave’s Garden website which also has some tips for extending the season.
